AIGA Connecticut Posters

Event posters (and corresponding materials) created for the American Institute of Graphic Arts Connecticut Chapter.

Beautiful Losers, (top) had AIGA Connecticut screenings in 2009 in Hartford and Bridgeport. The film follows a group of artists from humble beginnings to international acclaim, and documents how alt-culture influences like skateboarding, music and graffiti inspired their ries. The butterfly image is drawn from Geoff McFetridge’s original theatrical poster and expanded to a library of other critters. I wanted to visually expound the film’s “Make Something From Nothing” tag line by applying these bright colors to an otherwise dismal winter scene I’d shot the previous year around the neighborhood.

While researching the poster for Patrick Coyne’s lecture at the New Britain Museum of American Art (bottom) I was fascinated by Mr. Coyne’s schedule of speaking engagements. The guy is all over the country, it’s nuts. That, and the fact that he is the owner, editor and creative director of Communication Arts compelled the juxtaposition of: an abstract path marking his actual jouney at the time, and; custom lettering made out of back issues of Communication Arts.
